The $43 billion deal between Discovery and Warner Media is expected to increase output of DC content, Variety reports. The gaming business should also benefit from this.
Warner Bros. Discovery, the newly formed company resulting from the merger of Discovery and Warner Media, is exploring a major overhaul of DC Entertainment’s film and game production, including Variety reported.
According to the publication’s sources, the goal is to maximize the value of DC Entertainment’s IPs through a cohesive plan. While this move should mean that sooner or later we’ll see more of the likes of Harley Quinn and the Joker, those responsible also want to revive another classic superhero.
Several games in the works
In addition to cinema and television, Warner Bros. Discovery also wants to strengthen games around DC Entertainment, according to reports. Because Discovery also owns Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which is currently working on three games based on DC brands, including Gotham Knights, which is being developed at WB Games Montréal and is scheduled for release on October 25, 2022.
There’s also Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is in the works at Rocksteady and will be coming to players’ libraries in early 2023, and Wonder Woman, which is being created by Monolith Productions and hasn’t missed an official release window yet.
the remaining studios will probably not be able to handle a higher output without further ado. TT Games has been making LEGO games for over a decade, the latest of which has just appeared. Avalanche Software is busy with Hogwarts Legacy, which is scheduled for release in the 2022 holiday season. If successful, other games based on this brand are likely to follow.
Other studios like Warner Bros. Games Boston, San Diego, and San Francisco are focused on mobile game development, while WB Games New York seems to be just a support studio at the moment. Then there’s NetherRealm Studios, which could be working on a new Injustice game.
