According to information to Business Insidervia The VergeMicrosoft will be developing technology that will make it possible to play free Xbox games that instead contain ads.
The ads should not interrupt the game itself but, for example, appear on bulletin boards in a racing game.
According to Business Insider, Microsoft should at the same time be worried that the ads will be annoying and therefore look at only allowing certain brands to appear.
Microsoft itself will not receive any direct money from the ads, but these will go to the advertising companies and game developers. Data collected from Microsoft’s search engine Bing will not affect which Xbox ads are displayed.
When the ad-driven games may appear is currently unclear. It is also unclear which titles it is about.
