On May 19, Cadillac will open the order books for the fully electric SUV Lyriq. When the car was presented last autumn, the first Debut Editions were quickly booked and now they are two standard versions – Lyriq RWD and Lyriq AWD. They cost from 62,990 and 64,900 dollars and if you order now when possible, you will get the rear-wheel drive delivered this autumn and the four-wheel drive at the beginning of next year. The former has a rear engine of 340 horses, a battery pack of 100 kWh and should cover just over 50 miles on one charge. There is an onboard charger of 19.2 kW and you can fast charge with up to 190 kW. If you do that, you should be able to refuel twelve miles in ten minutes. Lyriq AWD has an electric motor on each shaft and together these give over 500 horses. Here, too, the battery is 100 kWh, but what you get on a charge, we unfortunately do not find out now.

Those who have ordered a Debut Edition will get their cars this summer.

Production of Cadillac’s electric Lyriq begins

Earlier than expected

At General Motor’s largest factory – Spring Hill Manufacturing plant in Tennessee, the first copies of the fully electric SUV Cadillac Lyriq have now rolled off the belt. The factory has undergone a renovation that cost two billion dollars to be able to convert it to electric car production and now it is time for serious. The renovations went better and faster than expected, so the cars can also be started earlier than expected. Reservations for Lyriq opened at the end of last summer and in just ten minutes all available cars were booked up. The order books will reopen on May 19 and the production volume has increased from 3,200 copies to as many as 25,000 now during the first year.

Cadillac finally presents the Lyriq concept

Preview of electric SUV coming 2022

Now the first part of Cadillac’s electric future is finally presented. This is the concept car Lyriq, which is a foretaste of what will be launched in 2022. According to the manufacturer, the production version will be 80-85 percent similar to the concept shown now. Lyriq is about the same size as the model XT5 which measures 4.8 meters in length. It is based on a new modular electric car platform and the power comes from the new driveline family Ultium. At the top here we find a battery pack of 100 kWh that will provide more than 48 miles range. Lyric can be quickly charged with 150 kW and is available with only rear-wheel drive or with drive on all fours. The inside gets, as we have previously said, a large screen and this measures a full 33 inches. Here you will find all the information you need, camera views, infotainment systems and the like. The heads-up display has augmented reality in it. Of course, the car gets the latest version of the semi-self-driving system Super Cruise. It also gets a new anti-road noise system that uses lots of microphones and accelerometers to make sure to muffle the noise in the cabin as much as possible. What Lyriq will cost once it appears in production form is unclear at the moment, but according to Cadillac, the price tag should be competitive in the luxury SUV segment.

More about the big screen in Cadillac’s electric model Lyriq

This is how it will work

This summer we got a sneak peek at the screen that will end up in Cadillac’s upcoming electric car Lyriq and now the manufacturer offers a video that shows a little more how it will work and look. According to Cadillac, the screen should have the highest pixel density in the automotive industry today and it should have the ability to recreate over a billion different colors. Lyriq is still under development and will not go on sale until 2023.
