iPad has a great feature called Quick Notes that allows you to instantly create a new note on iPad from anywhere with a single gesture.

You can use the Quick Note gesture with your finger or with your Apple Pencil. And it works with any iPad running iPadOS 15 or later. If you haven’t tried Quick Note yet, it’s very easy to use and very convenient, so let’s check how it works.

How to Use Quick Notes on iPad with Swipe

  1. From anywhere on iPad, swipe in from the bottom right corner to open a quick note.
  2. A quick note created on iPad by swiping in from the bottom right corner

  3. When finished with a quick note, tap Done or close by swiping down and to the right, it will automatically save to the Notes app.

You can write in Quick Note with your Apple Pencil or iPad keyboard, you can copy and paste into it, you can even drag and drop text, images, photos, and other data into Quick Note.

Also, you may notice that some apps also interact with Quick Note, for example Apple Music and Spotify will offer to paste a link to the currently playing song if you open Quick Note while those apps are open.

If you’re having trouble opening Quick Note on iPad with a swipe, try placing your finger on the black frame just behind the bottom of the iPad’s display, and then swipe inward toward the center of the screen. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll see how easy it is.

The swipe gesture may be the easiest way to open Quick Note for many users, but you can also open Quick Notes on iPad with a keyboard shortcut by pressing Globe + Q if you like. Similarly, a keystroke is available for Mac users to access this feature, and if you like the iPad feature that allows you to open quick notes from a corner, you can mimic this feature by assigning quick notes to a hot corner on Mac.

The only requirement to use this feature is iPadOS 15 or later, otherwise it works on any iPad model except iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 (not sure why these devices are not supported). This feature is quite useful on the iPad, and maybe one day we’ll see it on the iPhone too.

Apple Support has a helpful video that you might find useful if you want to watch a video of how Quick Notes works on iPad.
