According to SONY, it expects the Bungie takeover to be completed by December of this year at the latest.
After numerous major acquisitions within the gaming industry, SONY also became active earlier this year and announced the acquisition of Destiny development studio Bungie for 3.6 billion US dollars.
As the company revealed in its quarterly financial report, the acquisition, which is currently under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of the current fiscal year. This covers the period between October and December 2022.
“This guidance is based on the assumption that the acquisition of Bungie, Inc., which is currently under regulatory review, will be completed in the third quarter ended December 31, 2022,” SONY writes in its report.
SONY hopes that the takeover of Bungie will significantly accelerate its expansion efforts in the live service area. The former Halo developer will remain independent and current and future games will remain multiplatform titles.
As part of the takeover of the Canadian development studio Haven Studios in March, Playstation CEO Jim Ryan announced further acquisitions for the future.
