Lost on a flight, an iPhone made an unexpectedly long journey, with the smartphone reportedly making several international flights before being returned to its owner.

The iPhone, iPad, and other personal mobile devices have become indispensable entertainment tools, making them ideal companions on long flights. However, a story appeared on one of the forums about how one of the iPhones went on a much longer journey than its owner.

On the forum Australian Frequent Flyer On May 6, user ‘Rugby’ asked if there was a way to contact the Qantas Lounge in Sydney to track down their travel companion’s smartphone. Then, using the Locator service, it was discovered that the iPhone was not actually in the waiting room, but on the plane.

Despite repeated attempts to contact Qantas about the device, it appeared that the passenger would receive no official assistance. At this time, the iPhone still on board continued to travel along with the plane.

He traveled from Sydney to Auckland and back, then made an intercontinental trip to Honolulu, after which he returned to Sydney. And then again to Auckland and again to Sydney. All this time, the owner could track the movements through the “Locator”.

After the plane made its third international flight, and with considerable help from other forum participants, a Qantas employee called the owner and said that the iPhone had been handed over to the international baggage service.

The owner was able to receive his iPhone the following week after returning to Sydney from Auckland.

It is believed that given the amount of time spent in the air, the iPhone could theoretically achieve “silver” status with the airline.
