Sony is presenting the Playstation 3 (PS3) game console and the YouTube creators are launching their project on the Internet – that happened on May 16th. Every day, PC Games Hardware dares to take a look back at the young but eventful history of the computer.
… 2005: Sony’s first games console was a huge surprise success, its successor Playstation 2 left the established competition from Sega and Nintendo far behind – what would only the third Playstation generation bring? Rumor has it that Sony is working on a real hardware monster – and these rumors will become certain when Sony presents the new console at E3 this May 16: The Playstation 3 (PS3 for short) relies on the legendary multi-core Cell processor, a graphics chip from Nvidia based on Geforce 7, 256 MiByte extremely fast main memory and a state-of-the-art Blu-ray drive plus hard disk.
Interfaces known from the PC such as WLAN, Bluetooth and Ethernet are also on board and make the PS3 a very PC-like piece of technology that is also suitable with Linux as a work machine and in a cluster as a supercomputer replacement. In view of this hardware power, many believe in a preliminary decision in the race for new game consoles, especially Nintendo with the weak Wii console is hardly given a chance. But as history will show, performance isn’t everything: PS3 and Xbox 360 had to admit defeat to the supposedly weak Wii on the market for a long time.

… 2005: On that day, probably due to the media hype, hardly anyone noticed a website dedicated to making it possible for everyone to upload and thus easily share video clips – Broadcast Yourself is the motto, which many uploaders do not do, even years later from publishing unlawful copies of video and audio material that are not self-made.
However, what the Youtube makers are triggering on the Internet is like a revolution and makes video streaming socially acceptable, even if organizations like Gema would probably prefer to turn back the wheel of time, because the Youtube website, which has since been taken over by Google, is developing into a popular supplier of multimedia Irrigation and also plays an important role in the delivery of live events, sports coverage as well as more serious events like the 2011 Arab Spring.
The Youtube blog says:
What started as a site for bedroom vloggers and viral videos has evolved into a global platform that supports HD and 3D, broadcasts entire sports seasons live to 200+ countries. We bring feature films from Hollywood studios and independent filmmakers to far-flung audiences. Activists document social unrest seeking to transform societies, and leading civic and political figures stream interviews to the world.
