Tesla founder Elon Musk has been involved in the development of a number of high-tech products in recent years. In addition to establishing the space service company SpaceX to launch Starlink services, he has also invested in artificial intelligence (AI) development projects and launched the humanoid robot “Optimus”. At the Cyber Rodeo event in Texas recently, he revealed the production schedule and estimated price of the humanoid robot.
The Optimus Prime Robot is about 1.75 meters tall and weighs 56 kilograms. It is made of lightweight materials that look smoother than human skin and can perform tasks that eliminate danger, boredom and repetitiveness. Musk estimates that Tesla will show off a prototype Optimus Prime robot sometime this year, and there could be something useful by 2023.
Musk predicts that the production of humanoid robots will expand in the next few years and its costs will decrease. The utility of the Optimus Prime will increase year by year until around 2025.
Musk envisioned how humanoid robots could function in a home environment rather than a work environment. The host Anderson referred to Optimus as a kind of personal butler, and Musk said Optimus was more of a companion robot with many useful applications and forms, one of which was Catwoman.
As for the price of Optimus Prime, Musk said: “I don’t think the cost is actually ridiculously high, probably lower than the car.” But he didn’t say what kind of car it was, and Anderson estimated it was $25,000 (about 159,500 yuan).
