Despite numerous rumors of blocking and even direct threats from the Russian authorities, YouTube in Russia still not blocked. Why exactly is the tenth thing. The main thing is that the service is still available and, as it seems to many, it has even become even better, because now it does not have embedded advertising. This means that you can watch videos from your favorite bloggers without interruption or without paying a premium subscription. Moreover, now such an opportunity is no longer provided. But there is no doubt that YouTube in Russia is dying. Now I will tell you how I understood this and what to do with it.

YouTube in Russia runs the risk of dying itself, without blocking Roskomnadzor

Oddly enough, but YouTube in Russia ruined not by local authorities. They just didn’t touch video hosting at all, except for harmless threats. This was done by Google itself. turning off all ads and depriving bloggers of monetization. Despite the fact that many content authors complained that in Russia they pay much less for views than in the United States, in fact for many it was, if not the main, then a very tangible source of income, which is now gone.

Why are there no ads on YouTube?

I don’t know about you, but I speak for myself. At the moment I am subscribed to more than 50 YouTube channels. Not to say that I managed to watch everything that their authors post, but at the beginning of the year, when I opened the video service application – once every 1-2 days – I always had something to watch. Now the situation is just the opposite. Most bloggers have simply stopped releasing videos, and those who are still doing so have taken longer breaks between videos.

There is almost no monetization left on YouTube, and no one wants to work for free

The fact is that for many bloggers YouTube monetization, when money was paid for views, was almost the main source of income. It is clear that someone did integrations by entering into contracts with advertisers directly and talking about their products in their videos, but even without them you could make good money. At least when it comes to channels with millions of viewers.

Today, we can see that many advertisers have decided in principle to stop promoting their products and services on YouTube. Why? Everyone has their own reasons. Some made such a decision due to the disabling of contextual advertising, which they used as an alternative promotion method. And others simply decided that YouTube is gradually becoming toxic. What does this mean, you ask? Well, for example, that the site can be blocked at any time.

New videos on YouTube – why they don’t come out

Despite the fact that the authorities of the Russian Federation do not seem to be going restrict access to YouTube within the country, Google seems to be deliberately doing everything to make it happen. The search giant removes Russian media channels, blocks videos from local authors, and generally tries its best to restrict content published from Russia. Naturally, advertisers are afraid that, having paid for a large advertising campaign, they will not get the desired output, because either Google will not allow the blogger to fulfill his obligations, or the Russian authorities will block the site entirely, and then no one will see the ad.

Azamat Musagaliev’s channel now only announces new releases, and the shows themselves have moved to another platform called The Hole

As a result, we see how bloggers, who began to earn significantly less, either refuse to publish content, or start releasing their videos less often. Take at least the editorial channel. Previously, the guys published 3 videos a week: the main issue, a special report and news. Each of them, apart from ads for YouTube itselfcontained 2-3 integrations.

Today, as far as I can tell, integrations – that is, advertising purchased directly from the Editorial channel – have become less. As a rule, one advertising insert is placed in the issues, and they try to show it at the very beginning. If I’m not mistaken, this increases the conversion, because it increases the likelihood that everyone will see the ad without rewinding, which means they will buy the promoted product.

What will happen to YouTube in Russia

I can’t know, much less say anything for sure, but there are rumors that the Editorial Board lives not only on advertising, but also on third-party funding. Who exactly pays the authors does not matter in the context of our article. But the fact that the team has an additional source of income is confirmed by the fact that the guys still shoot videos that are expensive to produce, go on business trips and attract a large number of speakers, many of whom would certainly not speak for free.

Previously, videos on this channel were released every day, but now – once every 2-3 weeks

But such lucky ones as the Editorial Board, in Russian segment of YouTube not so much. That is why most of the entertainment channels went on vacation, apparently working out new scenarios for their further existence in a new paradigm. For example, the channel It’s Experimenters has almost stopped publishing new videos, even abandoning the format of small experiments that the guys used to post on a daily basis. The guys tried to go to Twitch, but then they realized that it was almost impossible to make money on their content there, and decided to take a break.

What does all of this mean? In my opinion, it is absolutely clear that YouTube in Russia bends over. The authors did not just lose monetization. They have lost a platform where they can earn money by publishing their content. After all, there are significantly fewer sources of income, including because advertisers are not eager to conclude contracts for the promotion of goods and services with authors who, with a high degree of probability, will not be able to fulfill their obligations.
