Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2022 starts in a few weeks. On June 6, Apple is likely to announce tvOS 16, which will be the next major release of Apple’s software platform for Apple TV and HomePod. When will tvOS 16 be announced?
tvOS 16 will likely be announced on June 6 during the WWDC 2022 keynote. The event will be online, although some students and developers will be able to attend the Apple Park keynote in person.
Following the announcement, Apple will test the operating system for several months until it is released to all users around September, as the company has been doing in recent years.
For the HomePod 16 software update in particular, it’s likely only a select few developers will be able to test it, as it has been since the company launched its line of smart speakers.

Unlike iOS, iPadOS and watchOS devices, there seems to be no reason for Apple not to support existing Apple TV and HomePod products.

New features in tvOS 16
While rumors about iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 focus on a revamped notification system, multitasking improvements, and health updates, tvOS 16 is still out of the spotlight of rumors and analysts.
After the weak announcement of tvOS 15 last year, don’t be surprised if Apple keeps tvOS 16 under wraps. Additionally, Apple expects Apple to tweak the Apple Fitness+ app, improve the TV app, and add more languages that Siri understands with the HomePod 16 software update.
Last but not least, deeper integration with HomeKit will be essential for these devices as the hub of the connected home.

We expect more details on tvOS 16 to come as we get closer to the kickoff of WWDC 2022 on June 6th.
Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing Apple update the Apple TV home screen and finally add Brazilian Portuguese to the HomePod mini. Not only that, but I would like Siri to understand two different languages at the same time – asking for an English song in Portuguese, as Google Assistant already does with ease.
