The very best Pokémon game is an absolute underdog

Yes, the main series of Pokemon is really good. But you know what’s even better? New Pokemon Snap. Here’s why every Pokémon fan should give the game a try. A comment.

New Pokémon Snap is underrated

In 2021, Pokémon celebrates its 25th anniversary and is bringing a Classic of the N64 era back: Pokemon Snap. Unfortunately, the “New Pokémon Snap” reboot on the Switch is still one of the less popular games in the series. And completely wrong!

With just under two million units sold, Snap lags behind games like Let’s Go, Eevee and Pikachu, which have sold around 13.6 million copies. This is a pity. Because at least it does so much right which the main series and other games still fail to achieve. (Source: bisafans)

Stunningly beautiful graphics

Both in terms of the environments and the Pokémon themselves, the main series can still change cut a slice of the spin-off.

Just check out how much nicer New Pokémon Snap looks compared to other games in the series:

New Pokémon Snap was created by Bandai Namco developed, which could explain the pretty look. Until recently, Game Freak still seemed to be struggling with resolutions, textures, frame rate drops, bugs and other problems. Pokémon Legends: Arceus wasn’t a particularly nice game in that regard.

Gameplay: Something different

If you know a Pokémon game, you know them all – at least as far as the process and the gameplay are concerned. run from A to B, Catch wild Pokémon and defeat other trainers until you are the champion.

What is rare, however: good photo games. Few games have a photo mode that is important to the game or even the main gameplay mechanic. There’s something about it extremely satisfying, when you get a great snapshot.

But hardly any other game offers this experience. Breath of the Wild offers something similar with its optional fillable Hyrule manual. The key difference, however, is that Pokémon is easy the better photo subjects are as flowers and bokblins. Which brings us to the next point.

What Makes It the Best Pokemon Game?

What has always made the Pokemon series so special – for me at least – is not the gameplay. Good role-playing games abound. The heart of the series are at the end of the day the sometimes cute, sometimes creepy and sometimes absurd creatures that we have all come to know and love over the years.

Unfortunately, in the main series you don’t get much of the personalities of the monsters. Battle animations, skins, and Pokédex entries are the only clues let the players know how their Pokémon are doing.

The fact that they all have individual traits, ways of life and behavior can be observed much better in New Pokémon Snap. There you can experience the little animals in the wild and interact with them yourself.
