“I don’t care about the money, buying Twitter isn’t about making money.”

“My biggest regret is not starting Tesla with JB Straubel, who is a perfect co-founder.”

“I’m the most car-making person on earth.”

In the latest interview, Musk was open and candid again, answered the focus topics, and shared the latest knowledge and insights:

The Twitter acquisition, going private, Tesla on the verge of bankruptcy, and the ultimate energy solution of the future…

Today, the richest man on earth, who is making great progress, has repeatedly talked about the suffering of Tesla in the darkest moments, and he never forgets it.

How about the Musk interview?

Why did you decide to acquire Twitter?

I think Twitter is an arena of inclusion, like a town square where everyone can express their opinions fairly, but the current state is that Twitter’s “black box algorithm” will deliberately recommend or hide certain tweets,This is a departure from the original correct path.

Not long ago you said you wouldn’t buy Twitter because it would make you a target, why have you changed your mind now?

If I own Twitter, the outside world will attack me, that still hasn’t changed. Because once Twitter is mine, if the platform has a problem, it will be 100% mine. I’m not sure if the acquisition will be successful in the end, but if it does, I’ll keep as many shareholders as possible because it’s not about making money for me, in fact I don’t care about money.

Importantly, Twitter, as an open and inclusive public platform, is very important to the future world.

The first thing I did when I owned Twitter was to eliminate spam, phishing, and spam, because those negative factors are the main thing that makes Twitter worse.

How did you become so influential on Twitter?

I don’t know, I’m either tweeting about my grand plans or seeing something interesting, and like most people, I’m probably sharing too much, what I call “oversharing.” But people just love the content.

Do you have enough money to buy Twitter?

I have enough assets to complete the acquisition, note that this is not a forward-looking statement, and at this point, I want to clarify why I finally gave up on taking Tesla private that year.

You know my relationship with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) is not very good, the truth of the matter is that I had enough money to go private at the time, not to deceive investors. The SEC is well aware of the matter, but they have launched a rigorous investigation into the privatization.

Tesla was on the verge of bankruptcy, so I was coerced by the bank:

If you don’t settle with the SEC, the bank will not give Tesla working capital, and Tesla will face the fate of immediate bankruptcy. It’s like someone pointed a gun at your kid’s head, so I had to back down.

Now they say, I lied, I didn’t lie, I was forced, and the only reason I admit that I lied is to keep Tesla alive.

Tesla was ruthlessly shorted at the time. Did you know that Tesla is the most shorted stock? This affects Tesla’s capabilities. Including hiring employees, selling cars, they desperately wanted Tesla to die so they could be profitable, but most of them paid the price, now look, where are they?

If you could go back in time, what would you most like to change?

The most regrettable thing is that the founders of Tesla were not me and JB Straubel (JB-Straubel). When I invested in Tesla, Tesla had no intellectual property, no employees, so I was not investing in Tesla, I was creating Tesla.

Tesla was once on the verge of bankruptcy. Is it because of the huge investment in Tesla’s factory automation production line, but it failed to meet expectations?

Indeed, we screwed up almost every part of the automated production line, from cells to battery packs to bodywork, paint, final assembly, etc. Almost everything was screwed up, I lived in the Nevada factory for 3 years, fixed The production line runs, lives with the team, and sleeps on the floor.

Now that the automated production line has become one of Tesla’s biggest competitiveness, how does it feel to look back at this time?

We had no other way, it was a nightmarish 3 years, the most painful experience of my life, we were always on the verge of bankruptcy, but in the end we made it, I didn’t like the experience of that time, but we didn’t Other way out, or Tesla will die.

For myself, with these 3 years of experience, I think I am the person who understands car making the most in the world.

You are now making big plans for the future, you always refer to “scale of electricity storage”, you say “scale” is the center of this big plan, why is “scale” so important to you?

In order to accelerate the development of sustainable energy, the scale of electric energy storage must be large enough. Our current economy is too dependent on fossil fuels. If we want to achieve sustainable economic development, energy must be renewable, such as wind energy and solar energy. , hydropower, geothermal energy, etc.

Of course, I stillnuclear energyloyal fans.

Since solar energy and wind energy are not very stable and are affected by external environmental factors, it is necessary to have stable batteries, and then we can replace all vehicles with electric ones.

If we do the above, the future will be a world of sustainable energy, and the faster this series of actions is carried out, the less pollution will be caused to the environment.

That’s why I said that the scale of power storage is very important. If we want to fully realize electrification, we estimate that in the future we will need to 300 TWh(1 terawatt = 10 to the 12th watt) total amount of electricity.

also,Recycling used batteriesIt is also very important. In my eyes, the raw materials of these batteries are like high-grade ore. Even if it is a depleted battery pack, I think it is worth $1,000 (equivalent to RMB 6,371.5).

All of these measures can accelerate the development of sustainable energy.

I’d love to know what’s going on in your head? Do you have any hindsight about certain things?

I think everyone’s experience is a little different, and for me, some social cues are not intuitive, like what the word “watch” means in certain situations.

I’m so nerdy, there are some things that others can understand at once, but I always take it literally, some people can’t always express exactly what they really think, things that others can easily understand, It always takes me a long time to figure out what it means.

Why do you always think deeply about problems?

Maybe it’s because I always do computer programming by myself late at night, which allows me to think technically, most people don’t like to type some weird symbols into a computer, and that’s all night Kind of, they thought it sounded a little bland, but I just enjoyed the process, I had fun.

Why you can always achieve innovation in each industry field, you can always see more possibilities in science and technology, and you can combine various technologies, and you can see business opportunities from it, how did you do it? ?

On the one hand it may be because I am passionate about the pursuit of truth, which is why I study physics.

Physics is always one step closer to the truth of the universe, and it can be predicted in advance.

I study physics is a very natural thing, no one forced me to study it. It’s also interesting to understand the nature of the universe, computer science or information theory, I can understand some of the logic. Another reason is that you know what information theory is practical and can think at a more fundamental level.

In short, physics and information theory, I’m really interested.

The truth of the universe you are talking about here is definitely different from what ordinary people say. You are always curious about many things. Why is this?

When I was a teenager, I was always a little depressed thinking about the meaning of life.

I always want to figure out what the meaning of life is, so I deliberately read some related books, as well as books written by German philosophers.

Then I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which is actually a philosophy book, albeit with goofy humor on the surface.

Adams once said, “It’s harder to ask good questions than to find answers.”

Sounds a bit like a joke.

I have a small piece of advice about human worldviews, or some kind of spiritual stimulation — and that is to figure out what questions to ask about some of the existing answers to the universe? And then keep expanding and extending the boundaries of our consciousness, both biological and digital.

So we can better ask questions, frame those questions, and then figure out why we’re here? What the hell is going on here?

This is the philosophy that drives me to keep pushing the boundaries of my consciousness, allowing me to better understand the nature of the universe.
