Buying up developer studios is not uncommon in the gaming industry. After Acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft in the amount of 70 billion US dollars, Sony has followed suit. In the past few weeks, rumors have been spreading that Kojima Productions could be the next target. Founder and namesake Hideo Kojima has now clearly ruled out this possibility.
Kojima Productions remains independent – What happened?
In recent weeks there has been speculation about which studio Sony could buy next. A banner on the PlayStation Studios website that Death Stranding alongside other first-party titles from the publisher, sparked rumors that Kojima Productions could be the next target.
Shortly thereafter, Hideo Kojima also released Twitter the same picture, but without further comment. The Japanese studio owner only commented several hours later. “I apologize for the misunderstanding as Kojima Productions was and will continue to be an independent studio”, he writes via Twitter. While that purchase won’t happen for now, Sony didn’t until this week Invested $1 billion in Epic Games.
What does the future hold for Kojima Productions?
