According to Gartner’s latest report, global semiconductor revenue will total $595 billion in 2021, an increase of 26.3% over 2020.
In the global semiconductor company market share ranking,Samsung Electronics overtakes Intel for the first time since 2018, but Samsung only slightly surpassed Intel, by less than one percentage point. Intel’s revenue fell 0.3% to 12.2% market share, while Samsung’s 12.3% market share.
Among the top ten companies, the other eight are:SK Hynix, Micron Technology, Qualcomm, Broadcom, MediaTek, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA, AMD.
Andrew Norwood, research vice president at Gartner, said that because HiSilicon and its parent company Huawei were subject to U.S. sanctions,HiSilicon has dropped out of the top 25 in the 2021 list.HiSilicon’s revenue fell 81%, from $8.2 billion in 2020 to $1.5 billion in 2021 directly.
2021 saw a strong return of demand in the automotive and industrial markets compared to the sluggish markets in 2020, which were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.The automotive market is outperforming all other end markets, growing 34.9% in 2021.
In addition, wireless communications, dominated by smartphones, grew by 24.6%. The number of 5G mobile phones produced in 2021 will reach 556 million, up from 251 million in 2020.
