TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on Twitter that Apple plans to release a low-cost version of the Apple TV in the second half of 2022.
A more affordable Apple TV set-top box will allow Apple to close the gap with competitors in the face of their recession, Kuo said. Most likely, the gadget will be focused on competing with the Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.
The current Apple TV 4K model, released in April 2021, costs $179 for the 32GB version and $199 for the 64GB model. Another set-top box that is still on sale, the Apple TV HD, will cost $149. For comparison, the Chromecast and Roku cost about $50.
