German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel unexpectedly resigned from his post at the head of PEN Germany after a row over leadership style. Yücel became widely known after he was jailed in Istanbul as correspondent for a German newspaper, causing a rift between Ankara and Berlin. “I don’t want to be president of this bratwurst joint,” Yücel said on Friday at a meeting where he also resigned from the association which supports Poets, Essayists and Novelists.
