Starting off with good news for you as graphics card prices continue to plummet! There are also fresh rumors about the memory of the next Geforce generation. AMD, meanwhile, is unpacking a “miracle driver” for the RDNA architecture and a 3D artist is making some jaws drop as he has created an incredibly realistic scene with the Unreal Engine 5! So stay tuned for this week’s PCGH news.

Graphics card prices: Slowly but steadily towards the RRP

The trend that has started for several months continues in only one direction. We’re talking about falling graphics card prices that are getting closer and closer to their RRPs. The website 3DCenter.org carried out another survey last week and found that the average prices in the German retail sector have fallen again compared to the survey three weeks earlier. However, the extent of the average price reduction is not as enormous as in some surveys before, because both AMD and Nvidia show a drop of “only” 5 percent. Prices have gradually fallen by double-digit percentages since January 2022, which is missing from 3DCenter’s latest survey.

Geforce RTX 4000: RTX 4090 with 24 GiB, RTX 4070 with 12 GiB?

The first technical data for the Geforce RTX 4000 had already leaked out and so the values of “kopite7kimi” can probably be seen as confirmation. The Geforce RTX 4090 should rely on the AD102 and have 600 watts of board power and 24 GiB memory. At least that’s what hardware tipster “kopite7kimi” says on Twitter, who – as expected – names GDDR6X with 21 gigatransfers per second. This would put the card where Ampere is already and big changes were probably not to be expected either, since more of everything is disproportionately emptying the pockets at the moment and does not offer the great utility value. Consequently, the Geforce RTX 4090 should operate at around one terabyte per second. Some time ago, a rumor with 48 GiB and 900 watts made the rounds

AMD: “Miracle driver” preview only for RDNA1 and 2 graphics cards

AMD has released two new drivers, with the latest version officially only supporting graphics cards from the current RX 6000 series and the previous generation. After AMD recently provided the designated “miracle driver” 22.10 for testing as part of the release of Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT and RX 6650 XT, there is now official WHQL support for the new graphics cards via the AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 22.5. 1. Aside from the launch of the new models, this new driver version fixes aloud official changelog on the download page only a display error with the Aero transparency effect of Windows and is also compatible with older desktop Radeons down to the RX 400 series from the GCN generation of 2016.

Unreal Engine 5 video: Confusingly similar to reality

A 3D artist named Lorenzo Drago has released a video showing a Japanese train station. What at first glance looks like regular camera footage is actually the work of Unreal Engine 5. The video shows Etchū-Daimon Station in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, both during the day and at night. The engine’s own Lumen process was used for the lighting in the video, but according to the artist Nanite was not used. Drago explains that all models, textures, animations and lighting are his own. Only the foliage, which can only be seen for a fraction of the video, comes from the Quixel Megascans library. Features such as steps, walls, cables, and lights are textures that are both crafted by hand and taken from photos.
