India’s heat wave breaks a century record, the government is looking for coal: some people are hot and dead birds are hot, experts reveal the truth

How does it feel when you are walking on the road and are suddenly hit by a few birds falling from the sky? This is not the picture in the movie, but actually happened in India, which has been hit by a heat wave recently. “Every day, dozens of birds are stunned by the heat and even fall to their deaths from dehydration.”

According to the India Meteorological Department, the temperature in northern and western parts of India may climb further to 50 degrees Celsius in May. In April, the average maximum temperature in parts of India was already the highest in 122 years.

In fact, it is not news that India has a high temperature in May before the arrival of the summer monsoon, but it is very abnormal to have such an extreme heat wave since April. However, misfortunes do not come singly. At this juncture, India’s coal stocks are in a hurry. 70% of India’s electricity comes from burning coal, and a lack of coal almost means power outages.

Extreme heat is not uncommon for South Asia. However, the current heatwave is causing concern for its early onset, widespread coverage and severity.

According to the US VOX news network, the heat wave originated from a high pressure system formed over the South Asian subcontinent. The system compresses and heats the air while compressing the clouds. If there are no clouds above, sunlight hits the ground, taking away moisture that would otherwise help cool the air. As the pressure builds, the sun continues to scorch the ground, creating a heatwave.

Indian Meteorological Department official Mohapatra said,Reduced precipitation is one of the key factors in the heatwave, with northwest India seeing around 89% less rainfall in March and nearly 83% less in April. He also said the local area will continue to experience above-normal temperatures in May.

CBS quoted meteorological scientist Mishra as saying, “There is no doubt that climate change plays a role in it (heat waves), although we have to consider other factors.” Mishra said that human beings will experience more changes in the next 20 to 30 years. Severe extreme heat, the recent heat wave in India is just a “microcosm”. He further stated: “There is no doubt that future heatwaves will occur more frequently, last longer, and cover larger areas of the Indian subcontinent…will affect water supply, agriculture, commerce and energy demand.”

The report also cited a report from India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences that said the average frequency of summer heatwaves in the country will increase to about 2.5 times a year by the mid-21st century, and will further increase to about 3 times by the end of the century.

The US VOX news network also pointed out that scientists have long warned that more frequent and extreme heat waves are one of the most direct consequences of rising global average temperatures.

As for the threat of heat waves, VOX believes,There are no quick or easy solutions, because climate change is a long-term problem that has been brewing for more than a century, and it will take decades or more to just adjust urban construction and economic structure.
