Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has “temporarily put on hold” a $44 billion acquisition of Twitter after the company said the number of fake accounts on the platform did not exceed 5%.

Musk wants to get detailed information about the number of users of the social network.

“The Twitter deal is on hold pending details to support calculations that spam/fake accounts do represent less than 5% of users.”

After this statement by Musk, Twitter shares collapsed by 25%, but later rolled back by 10%.

In a subsequent tweet, Musk stated that he still hadn’t changed his mind about buying Twitter.

Last week, Twitter spoke in an interview with Reuters about providing the US financial regulator with documents stating that the number of fake accounts does not exceed 5% of the average daily number of users.
