No need to wait for Apple to see new sensors in the Apple Watch. Others do it! This is the case of Aura, which launches the second generation of his bracelet for the connected watch. The accessory can measure the level of hydration as well as the distribution between muscle and fat mass in the body, like connected scales.
The first version dates back to 2020 and from one model to another, the technology does not change. It is always a question of using bio-impedance, in other words the sending of a weak electric current in the body. The differences between the two generations are based first on the design: the Aura Strap 2 resembles Apple’s unique Loop bracelet, while the first version was inspired by the Sport Loop.
Above all, the new model is smaller (by 20%) and narrower (by 5%) than its predecessor. In other words, the bracelet will take up less space on the wrist. Aura has developed a new architecture that collects 16 times more data points, allowing it to display an accuracy equivalent to 95% of imagery by bone densitometry (measurement of bone density).
The measurement process has been simplified: simply place the palm of the hand on the electrode of the case for 30 seconds, exit the three-step maneuver of the first generation. The Aura bracelet, which can be worn with an Apple Watch Series 3 and beyond, is offered at $149 and you’ll be taking a subscription with all that!
The manufacturer has in fact developed a formula at $9.99 per month ($79.99 per year) which allows you to receive more detailed statistics, recommendations to get in shape and training videos. The first six months are free with the purchase of the bracelet.
The measurement of body composition is of interest to manufacturers of connected watches, in the forefront of which is Samsung: the Galaxy Watch4 indeed allows it, but at the cost of a bit heavy gymnastics.
The Galaxy Watch4 goes back to the Apple Watch
And Apple in all this? The Apple connected watch could integrate a body temperature sensor with the Apple Watch Series 8, and other sensors are obviously in development.
