American entrepreneur Elon Musk informed tweeted that the deal to acquire Twitter was on hold. He did not refuse to buy the social network, but is now busy calculating fake and spam accounts.
Musk was going to buy back all remaining Twitter shares from shareholders for $44 billion. At the same time, in his assessment of the social network, he proceeded from the fact that the share of junk accounts does not exceed 5%. If there are more of them, the amount of the transaction can probably be revised down.
Musk is going to do a big purge on Twitter and completely eradicate spam and bots. According to him, he previously found out that Twitter management overestimated the number of users of the social network, counting those who have more than one account as several people. Fake and spammy accounts can scare off real users and reduce monetization, since they generate losses rather than profits on social networks, including damaging the site’s reputation.
