Former God of War creator slams Phil Spencer’s reaction to Bethesda’s postponements
The postponements of Starfield and Redfall have hit Microsoft and Xbox fans hard. While the developers themselves are happy to be given more time to create a better gaming experience, gamers worldwide are just plain disappointed.
Now the former creator of God of War, David Jaffe is in touch to wordwho worked on the first two parts, and harshly criticizes Phil Spencer and his statement that they want to deliver consistency and quality.
“You suck, Phil Spencer. You are me when I was 28. I knew I could design, I knew I could have commercial ideas, at least at the time my brain was directly connected to the zeitgeist. It took me seven, eight, nine months to realize that I couldn’t make any game at all, let alone direct a game… It made me realize that there are things we are good at, even great, and things we’re not good at.”
“Go to therapy, Phil Spencer. You are not good in this role. You just aren’t, you’re not going to be that guy…Dude, this isn’t a one time thing.”
Jaffe commented that Phil seems to be getting in his own way:
“Don’t fire Phil Spencer. Phil Spencer is a visionary, I love his vision for Game Pass and if someone can get the man out of his own way he could be the tip of the sword to lead an absolutely wonderful movement disruptive to gamers and the art form. But if he can’t get out of his own way and hire someone who knows how to lead the development…”
“You’re so close Phil Spencer, your plan is solid, your infrastructure, as far as these studios go, it’s solid, it’s great – [aber] you can’t manage it. You just can’t.”
