New teaser from Mark Zuckerberg. This time, the founder and boss of Meta takes the stage to show some possibilities with the future high-end virtual reality headset developed as part of the project codenamed Cambria. A VR helmet of course, but also for mixed reality.

The device in preparation is not itself revealed and there are no details about it while it is expected to be released by the end of this year. A communication operation that gives the right to a blurring of the helmet in the video.

The demonstration focuses on mixed reality experiences with the mixture of real world and virtual world. Called The World Beyond, the demo (already known but without Cambria) was created using Presence Platform. This platform was introduced last year – when the creation of Meta was announced – as a suite of AI and perception features.

With a real camera, spatial anchors, spatial mapping and hand tracking, Presence Platform should allow developers to offer mixed reality, more realistic desired interactions and voice experiences, always with this ambition to merge virtual content with the real world.

Without saying the word metaverse for once

In the video, Mark Zuckerberg manages in any case the feat of not pronouncing the word … metaverse (or metaverse). He explains that Project Cambria helps improve the look of the real world inside the helmet. This suggests a better resolution in order to reproduce the real world with the real camera, and especially in color unlike the current Quest helmets.

Another video of Meta Quest for mixed reality with Presence Platform allows us to appreciate the difference between the helmet Meta Quest 2 and for the helmet of the Cambria project (with therefore the color). For the latter, advanced hardware features are highlighted.

The demo with Mark Zuckerberg shows interactions with a cartoon-like 3D virtual character placed in the real world. The video also offers sequences from other augmented reality projects for a more professional look or with the appearance of a hologram-style yoga coach.
