By now, most fans can relate to the Marvel character Doctor Strange probably no longer without the charismatic actor Benedict Cumberbatch introduce. He is currently showing his talent in the current superhero blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He would never have slipped into the role of the powerful magician if he hadn’t previously turned down another offer for a role in the MCU.
Thor instead of Doctor Strange
Like Benedict Cumberbatch in one recently Interview with BBC Radio 1 declared, he got shortly after his appearance as the villain Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness an offer to star in the Marvel film Thor: The Dark World. That’s where he should actually be powerful dark elves Malekith embody and as an adversary of the god of thunder Thor act. However, he declined this offer because he did not want to play an antagonist immediately after his role as Khan.
“I was bold enough at the time to say, ‘I’d rather wait for something better.’ I wasn’t even a part of the conversations at first until a few representatives told me they were interested in me.”
Cumberbatch’s cancellation at the time cleared the way for the British actor Christopher Eccleston. He accepted the offer and slipped in for the Marvel film Thor: The Dark World (also known as Thor: The Dark Kingdom) as the dark elf Malekith. Cumberbatch celebrated his debut in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) a few years later as Doctor Strange and has become an integral part of it. A return in that role was already at the end of the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness officially announced.
