The author of these lines is rather the comfortable, boring type. It took him a whopping 85 hours to Elden Ring for the test to play through. A standard Playstation 5 controller was used. He neither breaks speed run records nor qualifies for any innovation prizes. It’s different for other players…
Current speedrun records
We had already reported in mid-March that Speedrunner Elden Ring in less than 30 minutes master. What madness. According to Speedrun.com the current records are now even much shorter. In the “ANY%” category, the speedrunner hazeblade on the PC currently comes in at 25 minutes and 37 seconds. In the “ANY% UNRESTRICTED” category, it’s even less than six minutes.
Blindfolded bosses? No problem!
A speedrunner by the name of star0chris is currently giving his runs a special extra challenge: he wants to defeat some of the hardest bosses in the game while wearing an eyepatch (and not using summons or ranged attacks). He’s already done that with a whole range of bosses, such as Radahn, Morgott, Feuergiant, Rennala and Godfrey. Here is an example kill, you can find more on his Youtube channel.
Opposite Kotaku star0chris reported that this way of playing takes a lot of practice until you have internalized sound effects and movement patterns in such a way that you can avoid them blindly. One of the most difficult bosses he felt was Rennala, which is normally one of the easier bosses in the game. But just tracking down the three singing girls is a big challenge blindly.
Complete Elden Ring with baby toys
In a completely different, remarkable Elden Ring project, we meet an old acquaintance again. Do you still remember the streamer Rudeism, who prefers to play WoW and Dark Souls 3 with a dance mat and swaps the dull gamepad for a nerf bow, banana, baguette or microwave in Overwatch? here some reminders.
This same Rudeism recently converted a Fisher Price controller for toddlers to use this Elden Ring (buy now €53.98) to play through. The conversion alone is said to have taken about two weeks. The toy has very little space inside, and an analog stick and a start button are also missing. Rudeism solved the latter problem by giving the yellow switch the task of changing the functions of the other buttons. Once activated, the left analog stick is suddenly the right one. The brain has to come to terms with that. ooh
Incidentally, Rudeism is still in the middle of its run. You can find the streams published so far on his Twitch channel. However, be prepared for a sound storm. Rudeism didn’t remove the children’s voice sounds that comment on keystrokes with “red”, “blue” or “1” over and over again.
