Sony had planned a lot for the Playstation 5, but it didn’t work out. At least that’s what current reports on the sales of the new Sony console say. However, optimism remains high.

The economic effects of the Covid pandemic have not stopped at Sony either and have had an impact, above all, on the extremely fluctuating delivery situation of the Playstation 5. Accordingly, the sales figures for the console are nowhere near Sony’s plans.

Accordingly, Sony had planned to sell 14.8 million consoles in the fiscal year 2021, which ended at the end of March. That didn’t work at all, only 11.5 million PS5 could be implemented. Still a lot, but a whopping 3 million less than planned. Sony had originally planned to break the PS4 sales figures in the same period after the launch. But that was nothing.

However, Sony had already announced in the current year that delivery bottlenecks could affect the supply and that’s how it happened. As Sony announced on Tuesday, however, they are extremely optimistic for the 2022 fiscal year and are aiming for a number of around 18 million by the end of March 2023. Provided, of course, that there are no further problems with the delivery of the components, which could well happen given the current lockdowns in Asia.

However, Sony currently assumes that it will be able to handle this number and also states that the demand is even higher. Based on an improved supply of consoles, Sony also expects that revenues from games and services will increase by a whopping 34 percent. So the optimism at Sony remains high.
