The relevant person of IC distributor said,Memory prices to trend down in Q2 2022but with the launch of new smartphones in the second half of the year, there is a possibility of a rebound.

According to Digitimes, sources said that although the output of the joint venture fab of Kioxia and Western Digital in Japan was insufficient, NAND flash memory prices were maintained in the early part of the second quarter.Memory prices remain dragged down by rising inventories from Chinese branded handset makers and weak consumer demand.

As Chinese mobile phone makers lowered their shipment targets, the inventory of mobile DRAM and NAND flash memory chips has accumulated to an excessively high level. The overall sales of mobile phone memory in 2022 are expected to be the same as in 2021.

According to sources from mobile phone parts suppliers,Memory chip demand for iOS devices to pick up from third quarter. Demand for Android smartphones is expected to pick up in the third quarter, when new models are rolled out, the source said.

The person believes that the outlook for the overall demand for memory used in mobile phones is bright in the medium to long term as 5G smartphones and related applications will stimulate demand. However, considering the uncertainty caused by negative macro factors such as China’s new crown epidemic, Russia-Ukraine conflict, and inflation,IC dealers are less optimistic about memory chip price trends.

Supreme Electronics, which represents sales of major memory companies, recently said: “Prices of mobile phone-related memory ICs will decline in the second quarter, but are expected to stabilize in the second half of the year.” The proportion is more than 40%, followed by DRAM chips, accounting for about 28%.

However, demand for mobile DRAM memory has started to pick up, PTI, a memory back-end packaging and testing company, said on its recent earnings conference call. As supply-side constraints ease,Production of NAND flash chips to increase in Q2.
