The European Parliament has voted in favor of a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars in the Member States of the Union from 2035 onwards.

The proposal means that car manufacturers must reduce their new cars’ carbon dioxide emissions by 100% by 2035, which in practice means that petrol and diesel cars will no longer be sold in the EU.

However, it remains to be seen whether there will be a total ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars in the EU. The proposal now voted through in the European Parliament must also be approved by the 27 Member States of the Union before it can be decided definitively.
