After the U.S. administration’s about-face, which finally began to take the study of UFOs seriously again, NASA will conduct its own investigation.

NASA has just announced that it is setting up a team specially dedicated to the study of UFOs – or rather PANIs, since Uncle Sam now refers to these events as “unidentified aerial phenomena”.

This decision comes shortly after a large hearing organized by the United States Senate on the question of UFOs. Senior Pentagon officials shared their (meager) conclusions on a whole slew of mysterious flying objects more or less documented. The general public did not have much to eat, but this step still marked a change of course in the management of these testimonials.

Indeed, the US government has long laid a heavy cloak on this issue; a situation that has further heightened the fascination of the general public. For several decades, all documents on this subject were strictly classified, and we have seen heaps of speculation as fanciful as it is counterproductive.

A situation of which the American administration has finally become aware. She finally wants to bury this nauseating taboo that has evolved into “vicious circle of excessive secrecy”. “Since this is an area of strong public interest, any unwelcome secrecy would be an obstacle to solving the mystery. It could also prevent us from finding solutions to potential vulnerabilities.”, explained Senator André Carson shortly before this conference.

NASA will also investigate

And to achieve this, the government sees only one solution. He now considers that he must embrace his role in “the contextualization and analysis of these reports”, according to Adam B. Schiff, head of the House Intelligence Committee. And to set an example, specialized federal agencies like NASA are rightly expected at the turn.

It is for this reason that she is embarking on this vast scientific enterprise. “Given the small amount of observations, our first task will be to collect the most robust dataset possible,” explains independent astrophysicist David Spergel who will lead this work.

We will start by determining what data exists – civil, governmental, military, commercial data… -, how to collect it efficiently, and how to analyze it in the best possible way.”, he specifies.

A significant scientific strike force

For several reasons, NASA stands out as a particularly relevant player in carrying out such work. For starters, this is a major scientific institution for which working with incomplete information is part of daily routine; a definite advantage when it comes to identifying mysterious phenomena. Thomas Zurbruchen, one of the big bosses of the scientific side of the institution, is in any case convinced.

We have access to a wide range of Earth observations from space – and that’s the soul of any scientific endeavor“, he says. “We have tools and a team that can help us improve our understanding of the unknown This is the very definition of science”.

A long tradition of communication and popularization

The other advantage of NASA is that philosophically, NASA has nothing to do with the Pentagon. Popularization and communication with the public are an integral part of its DNA; it has always distinguished itself through its sustained efforts at this level. It is thanks to this tradition that the general public can vibrate by following missions like that of Perseverance on a daily basis. Perfect for rebuilding trust between the government and the public about aliens and breaking this famous vicious circle.

In line with the principles of openness, transparency and scientific integrity, our report will be shared with the public”, explains NASA in its press release. “All NASA data is publicly available – we take that very seriously – and we’ll make sure anyone can see or study it.”.

Unfortunately, we will have to be patient. The results of this study will not come for nine months at the earliest. But with a bit of luck, this will finally make it possible to lay down some interesting bases to clear up these mysteries which leave even the Pentagon perplexed.
