IT House May 10 news, Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) announced on May 9 that DisplayPort 2.0 supports DisplayPort UHBR for some devices.
There are three manufacturers certified this time: AMD, MediaTek and Realtek. The AMD 6000 series Ryzen is the only certified PC processorwhich means that this is also one of the earliest devices that ordinary users can buy that supports DP 2.0 UHBR.
The theoretical bandwidth of DP2.0 UHBR (Ultra High Bit Rate) has reached an astonishing 80Gbps, which is twice the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4, which means that it can support uncompressed 8K 60 Hz HDR through a single cable , 4K 240Hz HDR, 2 x 4K 120Hz HDR, and even 4 x 4K 60Hz HDR. In view of the operation before HDMI 2.1 and the amazing transfer speed of DP2.0,VESA has established a DisplayPort Authorized Test Center (ATC) to exclusively certify devices that support DP2.0.
IT House learned that the original bandwidth of UHBR 10 is 40Gbps, and the effective bandwidth is 38.69Gbps. The bandwidth of UHBR 13.5 and UHBR 20 is larger, reaching the original bandwidth of 54Gbps and 80Gbps, and the effective bandwidth is 52.22Gbps and 77.37Gbps respectively. If such a large bandwidth is used, passive wire can only be used for ultra-short-distance data transmission. If it is longer, an active wire is required, which means that corresponding hardware such as an amplification chip needs to be added to the data cable.
And now DP2.0 has also started very strict equipment certification, which will greatly improve the consumer’s buying experience and avoid falling into the trap similar to USB interface and HDMI2.1.
