The foldable smartphone season is about to reopen, or so rumors suggest with a spate of leaks for multiple devices… starting with Samsung. The industry pioneer is actively preparing the new generations of its two ranges, namely the Fold (book type) and Flip (clamshell).
The Galaxy Fold4 should not upset habits in terms of design, except for the interior screen, the one that unfolds to transform the device into a tablet, would have a 6:5 ratio, according to leaker @Universice. It’s wider than the Fold3’s 5:4 panel, but a little more compact in height. The external screen would have the same characteristics (smaller in height but wider) with its 23:9 ratio against 24.5:9 for its predecessor.

The Fold4’s battery capacity could be identical to that of the Fold3 (4,400 mAh), while that of the Flip3 would be larger: 3,700 mAh against 3,300 mAh for the older generation. You can never have too much autonomy. The maximum charging speed would not go beyond 25W, which is already not so bad (it’s the same speed as the Fold3, but the Flip3 is limited to 15W).
Finally, this new generation of Fold and Flip would work with a mysterious Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, an unprecedented Qualcomm chip. It would be manufactured by TSMC. Samsung will no doubt want to push its advantage in the foldable segment, the Fold3 and Flip3 having apparently conquered their audience.
But the manufacturer will not be the only one to be interested in this clientele. Motorola is also on the spot, determined to bite into a piece of this appetizing cake. The third generation of the folding RAZR, codenamed “Maven”, is in the works, and the Lenovo-owned manufacturer is already preparing a successor dubbed “Juno”, according to 91Mobiles.
And that’s not all. The brand would also develop a rollable screen device! Known by the small name of “Felix”, this terminal would extend vertically. A third of its screen would wrap around a mechanism placed at the bottom of the smartphone. It would not be a question of transforming a phone into a tablet, but rather of extending the phone. However, we would not be close to seeing the device, Motorola being still at the very beginning of its design.
