Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II – Dark Water Gameplay Demo shows 8 minutes of gameplay

Almost 8 minutes of gameplay from the Dark Water level of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was shown at the Summer Game Fest.

Original message:

Activision has finally nailed it and presented Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, among other things through a trailer that you can watch below this news. Accordingly, Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28th and anyone who was afraid that their old console would no longer be used can breathe a sigh of relief. PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC (Steam and Battle.Net) were named as platforms. Pre-orders are already possible, at least on Steam, with two editions being mentioned – the Standard Edition (EUR 69.99) and the Vault Edition (EUR 99.99) with plenty of additional content (see graphic).

A few words were also said about Warzone 2.0 – the successor to the extremely successful free-to-play title is also scheduled to be released this year, but only after Modern Warfare 2. Warzone 2.0 should also cover the entire platform package. The previous Warzone should continue to exist, separately from Warzone 2.0. Incidentally, items and progress from Warzone will not be carried over to Warzone 2.0 – so you start over.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 aims to send you around the globe as part of the campaign, with locations in Europe, Asia and America. You’ll experience offshore sieges with underwater combat, full-scale explosive attacks from 30,000 feet over enemy fortresses, and high-stakes stealth missions both within sight and under cover of darkness – at least that’s what the press release says.

There are some old acquaintances on the part of the squadmates, but also a newcomer. Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Simon “Ghost” Riley and Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish are back on board. They are being reinforced by Colonel Alejandro Vargas, a Tier 1 operator in the Mexican Special Forces.

Something is also happening technically. Modern Warfare 2 features a physics-based material system enabling state-of-the-art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile-based streaming system, a new PBR decal rendering system, volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, and a new GPU geometry pipeline. In addition, a new AI system is used, through which friend and foe act more tactically.

Incidentally, starting with Modern Warfare 2, a uniform engine will be used across all CoD titles and studios in the future. This is primarily intended to avoid the technical problems that Vanguard and Warzone recently suffered from. But you want to make sure that the games in the series are not standardized too much and that Black Ops, for example, still retains its own feeling.

Of course, there will also be a multiplayer mode, which comes with a revised Gunsmith system, among other things, and will be continuously expanded with free DLCs after the launch. Co-op friends can look forward to a return of the revamped Special Ops mode.

A beta for Modern Warfare 2 is also planned. It is not yet clear when this will take place, but it is already certain that it will start on Playstation consoles a few days before the other platforms. This is still based on a deal that was made before the Microsoft takeover.
