After several delays, Microsoft Teams is now starting to introduce the “Chat with self” function. What sounds funny at first glance is supposed to help with self-organization.

Once the feature is fully rolled out, which according to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap By the end of June, the chat feature will allow you to “talk to yourself” by starting a new conversation and entering your name in the recipient field.

In this way you can “send” yourself messages as well as documents, videos and pictures. Self chat appears as a regular Teams conversation alongside everyone else.

The idea behind this is that you have a simple collection point for personal information. Since Teams is cloud-based, you can also use it to quickly share content between two devices. Messenger Telegram has such a function and it has served me well many times, so I am sure that I can use it in teams from time to time.

One could argue that there are enough other and ultimately better solutions for this purpose, such as OneNote. When it comes to things that want to be organized permanently, that is also perfectly correct. For small things that have to be thrown somewhere quickly, I much prefer such simple solutions, which above all work quickly and without changing the program.
