NFTs are a very divisive subject, and many people don’t see the point of these images that cost a fortune.

Symbol of the NFT world and its madness, the Bored Apes are images of monkeys, on a background of colors. A mixture that has nothing transcendent, but which for some obscure reason is the most expensive in the world of NFT. Because all the strength of this collection can be summed up in one idea: its rarity.

The Bored Apes are unique, and the entire collection is only 10,000 images, not one more. It is therefore difficult to acquire one of these images, which explains why the selling prices are no longer reasonable. But while the world of NFTs is in turmoil, some people prefer to make fun of it, to show the absurd aspects of this Web 3.0 technology.

Fungible fake NFTs: when AI gets involved…

This is particularly the case of Yannic Klicher, a machine learning expert who has just developed an AI capable of producing Bored Apes on simple request. Products that although imperfect, Klicher himself recognizes that the system still has some flaws, can very well pass for real in the eyes of neophytes.

Klicher explains that he put two neural networks in opposition to produce simulated faces of NFTs. The first will be content to produce images on the chain, starting from the 10,000 official Bored Apes. With this working basis, the first neural network produces more or less similar images, while the second, like a site manager, checks the quality of the work done and looks for the slightest imperfections.

An artificial intelligence that works on demand

Kilcher specifies having worked with the GAN neural network from Nvidia to achieve this result. Once through the cracks of this net, the fake NFT is available, and anyone can use it as they wish. But the process implemented by Klicher goes even further.

The trained engineer thus explains that it is possible to upload an image on his website, so that the latter serves as a basis for the construction of a new fake Bored Apes. An application that appeals to many people, who visit the Hugglingface.co website.
