TikTok is introducing Memoji-like avatars in its latest update so that creators can “show off their individuality”. However, these new avatars are very similar to Apple’s Memoji. The social media giant has announced TikTok avatars, allowing users to customize hairstyles, piercings, accessories and makeup.

TikTok’s goal for these Memoji-like avatars is to “really represent everyone on TikTok.” In addition, users can choose from a variety of features such as multiple outfits, accurate skin tones, hair colors and textures. The company also says it is open to feedback from its community on how it can continue to improve its diversity and inclusion efforts.
TikTok says:
We’re excited to see people use avatars to express their creativity and continue to explore ways to incorporate avatars into other TikTok apps, creating a space on TikTok for self-expression and expanding the ways people connect and create in our global community.
How to customize your TikTok avatar
In the TikTok app, open the effects section and search for “Avatar Effect”. On this screen, you can start personalizing your avatar as you wish. Once completed, you can start recording a video with your avatar and it will mimic your movements as you gesticulate and move.
Sight
This feature is available today for anyone who wants to create a virtual version of themselves. While I’m not sure what to think of them yet, I’m sure Avatars will be a hit on the platform.
