How many developers are still working on Battlefield 2042 at DICE? Insider Jeff Grubb claims it’s just an emergency cast left. Meanwhile, EA clearly denies this report and emphasizes that it remains committed to the game and the fans.

Is DICE leaving a sinking ship in the case of Battlefield 2042? A recent report from insider Jeff Grubb claims that only an emergency cast of sorts is still working on the flopped shooter in order to fulfill the minimum of what has been announced so far. So fans should lower their expectations, Grubb said. But EA responded to his claim with a clear denial.

Grubb: It’s time to abandon ship.

What happened? Grubb had stated in the GrubbSnax podcast in connection with the release of Season 1 that EA wanted to move on to the next part of the Battlefield series as soon as possible. That’s why only a significantly reduced development team is working on Battlefield 2042, which should publish updates “as quickly and cheaply as possible”. The core team of Battlefield developers at DICE is already working on the next series offshoot.

Grubb explained accordingly:
There is no other way to say it: […] Lower your expectations for this content [von Battlefield 2042]. you will be [die Updates] simply vpublish as a quick shot. And then, that’s the idea, the reason they’re doing this is because they all want to move to the next battlefield as quickly as possible. It’s time to abandon ship.

EA emphasizes commitment to Battlefield 2042 and fans

After Grubb went public with his report, those responsible at EA spoke up and clearly denied Grubb’s statements. In a statement, a spokesman for the publisher said:
There is a significant team across multiple studios focused on evolving and improving the Battlefield 2042 experience for our players, and our team at DICE is at the core of that. We’re committed to the future of Battlefield 2042, and our focus for the game – based on player feedback – has expanded in our latest development update.

For his part, Grubb published EA’s denial on Twitter. What is true about his report is probably only known by the team at DICE itself. The future will show how much work the developers will put into upcoming updates for the shooter and if Battlefield 2042 really is a sinking ship.
