Will the future of Xbox be played entirely in the cloud? In the short term, certainly not, but it is in any case a path on which Microsoft seems to want to move.
According to Venturebeatthe American company is said to be developing a device to connect to its television to allow players who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to play online. streaming via xCloud outside of the Xbox ecosystem.

This device, which could be launched in the next twelve months, would eliminate the need to buy a home console. It would adopt a format quite similar to Google Chromecast or Amazon’s FireStick and would mainly focus on the gaming. Microsoft could, however, integrate different applications to allow users to access their video services in streaming favourites.

In addition, Microsoft would work hand in hand with Samsung to integrate an Xbox application into the Korean manufacturer’s connected televisions within a year as well. Owners of Samsung smart TVs could thus play streaming via xCloud without a console and without a dongle, directly from their television.

With this Xbox key, Microsoft could compete head-on with other players already present on the gaming market by streaming like Google with its Stadia offer or Nvidia and its GeForce Now service.

According to Tom Warren, a journalist from The Verge generally well informed of the secrets of the American giant, this Xbox dongle would be part of the initiative “Xbox Everywhere”, from Microsoft.
This would include, among other things, the arrival of xCloud in other markets, support for new titles on Microsoft’s Cloud Gaming platform (such as the recent arrival of Fortnite), but also and above all the possibility play the Xbox games you already own through the cloud.
