Apple announced iOS 16 during the WWDC 2022 keynote, but there are many features that won’t be available once the operating system is available. The same thing happened to several features last year, either they were delayed during beta cycles or Apple just decided they weren’t ready yet. With that in mind, here are the features you shouldn’t be launching this fall.

The redesigned iOS 16 lock screen is definitely one of the coolest features coming to this new operating system this fall, but not everything Apple announced with it will be available in a few months. According to the company, these two features will arrive later this year:

Real time activity. Live Activity helps you stay up to date with what’s happening in real time, right from your lock screen; Live Activity API: Follow the current sports game, or track the progress of a trip or order at a glance. Take a look at interactive activities from your favorite third-party apps with the new Developer API.

Without live action, introduced with the first public version of iOS 16, App Clips will not support it when the new operating system launches, although it will have an increased size limit and accurate location suggestions in the Spotlight widget and Siri Suggestions.

Expected for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, the new Freeform flexible canvas will also launch later this year.

With the Freeform app, users will have a canvas to create diagrams of new projects, collaborate in real time, and chat via iMessage or FaceTime. This board has enough space for a large number of people to write or draw together.

Game Center will also be missing features when iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura launch, as these two features will take a little longer to complete:

SharePlay support: Games that use Game Center multiplayer support have SharePlay integration. You can automatically start playing with friends on a FaceTime call; Contacts Integration: Contacts displays your friends’ profiles in Game Center. Tap to see what they’re playing and what they’re up to in games.

For iOS 16 and tvOS 16, Matter support won’t launch until later this year. Matter is the new smart home connectivity standard that will allow compatible accessories to work seamlessly together across platforms. Matter lets you choose from even more compatible smart home accessories and control them using the Home app and Siri on your Apple devices.

In iPadOS 16, the Focus filter, which lets you set borders in Apple apps like Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari to draw borders for each Focus that’s enabled, won’t run in the first version of iPadOS 16.

Conclusion

Since we’re still on iOS 16 Beta 1, we’ll be sure to learn more about delayed features before the end of the beta cycle. We will be sure to update this article as soon as we know what other features will be delayed – hopefully not as much as in iOS 15.
