The Korean gaming giant NCsoft has announced Project M, a title that has little to do with the publisher’s MMO roots. Instead, a Korean heavy rain awaits us!

Interactive movie video game

The press release refers to Project M as an “interactive movie video game” – presumably something along the lines of the games from Quantic Dream or Supermassive Games. Choices, Story, Quicktime Events!

A first trailer underscores this impression and at the same time reveals the graphic power of Unreal Engine 5. The scenes show detailed faces, incredibly realistic environments and crisp, high-gloss action. According to NCsoft, the concentrated know-how from the areas of 3D scans, motion capturing and visual effects comes together here.

The story is supposed to revolve around a man who wants to avenge the death of his wife. However, the trailer also seems to bring supernatural powers into play. At first glance, this is reminiscent of Quantic Dream titles such as Control or Alan Wake, but there is no concrete information yet.

Away from online role-playing games?

Project M is NCsoft’s first major step into the single-player space. So far, the publisher has stood for titles like Aion, Lineage and Guild Wars – all successful and extremely long-lived online role-playing games.

However, the indicated production quality of Project M underlines that the Koreans also want to deliver in other areas. However, according to the developers, the title is still in an early stage of development. Details such as a release date or on which platforms Project M will be released have not yet been determined.
