It seems that Xbox Game Pass users will soon no longer be dependent on more expensive hardware. Microsoft is reportedly looking to release a streaming stick in the coming months and establish an Xbox app in partnership with Samsung.

While gaming streaming providers like Stadia have been brought down to earth, the cloud remains a big goal for Microsoft’s Xbox division. The company intends to use this approach to bring AAA gaming to billions of people worldwide. Because the user does not have to own expensive gaming hardware.

In order to make it even easier to get started with Xbox video games, Microsoft is apparently planning to launch a streaming stick or similar hardware. While the Xbox Series S was designed for a cheaper entry but brings with it typical console hardware, the Xbox Stick would be limited to the cloud.

Xbox stick in the next twelve months?

one Report by Jeff Grubb According to Microsoft, plans to launch the streaming device in the next twelve months. The hardware is simply connected to a TV or other display device and offers the user the possibility to access the supported games of the Xbox Game Pass – provided the internet connection is sufficient. Cloud access is part of the Ultimate subscription, which costs around 13 euros per month.

In addition to the games, the streaming device is also said to support film and TV services. And according to Grubb, it’s similar to an Amazon Fire Stick or small Roku piece of hardware.

Microsoft is also said to be working with Samsung to develop an Xbox streaming app for current Samsung Smart TVs. Both the app and the streaming device will be released in the coming months, according to Grubb, and are part of Microsoft’s “Xbox Everywhere” initiative, which includes the recent addition of “Fortnite” to Xbox cloud gaming.

“The company has repeatedly stated that it doesn’t care how one enters the Xbox ecosystem,” Grubb said. “But while that has been said, it has [Microsoft] at the same time put huge resources into the dedicated Xbox consoles. It was sort of an admission that gaming hardware is still the best way to reach potential Game Pass subscribers.”

If Grubb’s schedule is correct, Microsoft should officially announce the plans in the coming months. For the E3 period, despite the discontinuation of the former trade fair announced a media show. And according to rumours, the Redmond company would also like to be present at Gamescom in August this year.
