At least 21 people died in a train crash in eastern Iran, the ISNA news agency reported on Wednesday, citing emergency services. Several dozen other passengers were injured in the accident near the city of Tabas. The train was on the route between the pilgrimage city of Mashhad and the desert town of Jasd when eight of 11 carriages derailed some 50 kilometres outside Tabas, the Khorasan provincial governor’s office said.
