Apple has added Virtual RAM Expansion in iPadOS 16, allowing resource-hungry apps to use the built-in storage to expand the RAM of iPad Pro M1 and iPad Air M1.

Apple has increased the amount of RAM that iPadOS apps can use from 4GB to 12GB in iPadOS 15. With the release of iPadOS 16, the company will allow a significant increase in the amount of memory an app can use. For example, for all iPads with an ‌M1‌ chip and 256GB of onboard storage, apps will be able to use up to 16GB of RAM for the most demanding workloads.

Virtual memory paging adds to the list of iPadOS 16 features that are exclusive to tablets with the ‌M1‌ chip.

Currently, the beta version of iPadOS 16 is available only to registered developers, and the release of the public assembly is scheduled for July.
