Intel actually wanted to add a new function to the Arc graphics driver by the end of April, with which impermissible benchmark optimizations can be deactivated. At least so far, however, no driver has been published that contains this function.

On March 30, Intel presented the first two Arc Alchemist graphics cards, the Arc A350M and the Arc A370M. At the start there was also a suitable graphics driver and some explanations about implemented optimizations and future drivers. became concrete emphasized by Intelthat the first graphics driver for the Arc Alchemist GPUs contains optimizations that can significantly increase performance in the 3DMark benchmarks.

No official results

The optimization of the arc driver, for example, should result in a performance increase of around 15 percent in 3DMark Time Spy. According to the developer of 3DMark, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), such benchmark-specific optimizations may not be used for official results. That’s why Intel actually wanted to deliver another driver by the end of April with which the function can be deactivated.

“In late April, we will be adding a UI option that will allow users to toggle these benchmark-specific tweaks on and off. […] If the toggle feature is implemented and the benchmark optimizations are disabled by default, the driver can be approved by UL.”

However, now that the first week of May has passed, such a feature is still missing. According to the website Wccftech, neither the official arc driver from April 8 nor the beta driver from April 27 has such a function implemented. As a result, testers are still unable to present official 3DMark results from Arc graphics cards.

For Intel, it is to be hoped that the delay is only an exceptional case. For example, a look at AMD’s long history of drivers shows that the reputation of supposedly inferior driver software can last for years, even if the current situation looks very different. It would therefore be in Intel’s interest not to risk making such an impression with the new Xe graphics cards.
