Alphonse Nasto, a second-generation member of an enduring and well-loved, family-owned Newark ice cream shop that grew into one of New Jersey’s best-known manufacturers of desserts, has died, his family said on Saturday. Nasto, 92, who helped build Nasto’s Ice Cream Co., died on Wednesday, the family announced on social media. Founded in 1939, Nasto’s has produced a variety of ice cream and other frozen confections in the Garden State for decades. “As a young adult, he came into his parent’s business and he took it to the next level,” said Frank Nasto, Alphonse’s nephew and the current owner. …
