IT House reported on May 8 that due to the popularity of cryptocurrency mining such as Ethereum last year, the graphics cards of major manufacturers have experienced shortages and price increases. In order to maintain the supply of gamers, NVIDIA announced the launch of hash lock (LHR) starting from RTX 3060 to combat mining behavior, but NVIDIA officials accidentally released the unlocked firmware and fell short.

Subsequently, NVIDIA announced the upgrade of the LHR lock, and the hardware and software cooperation will be restricted. Of course, even if Nvidia does this, there are still many people who believe that the LHR will be cracked again.

Now, the QuickMiner team, NiceHash, has announced that it has completed the cracking of the Nvidia algorithm and successfully restored the LHR graphics card to 100% of the full Ethereum computing power.

The NiceHash team claims that under the Win system, QuickMiner software has completed the cracking of the LHR computing power limit of the DaggerHashimoto (Etash) algorithm. For non-RTX 3050 and RTX 3080 12G graphics cards, 100% hash rate is available, which has been confirmed by the Benchmark.pl team.

Since the introduction of LHR, many speculators have tried to develop anti-mining restriction software, and previous software like NBMiner has been able to restore 70% performance on LHR graphics cards. Meanwhile, other programs like T-Rex are more creative and can mine two different cryptocurrencies at the same time, making the most of the remaining 30% of computing power.

It is reported that QuickMiner currently only supports the DaggerHashimoto (Ethash) algorithm. The software works well on Windows.

The developers say that QuickMiner can unlock almost all Ampere graphics cards, with the exception of the RTX 3050 and RTX 3080 12GB graphics cards, which it claims use an updated LHR algorithm (LHRv3).

According to foreign media tests, the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 12GB Suprim X has indeed failed to crack, it still only has a computing power of about 65mh/s, while other graphics cards have been cracked.

Benchmark.pl team testing findings. Using this software has successfully unlocked the RTX 3080 Ti from the previous 85-88 MH/s to 117 MH/s.

It is worth mentioning that in February this year, some criminals took advantage of this mentality to trick the miners. Someone announced a so-called LHR Mining Unlocker in a high-profile manner. The final result showed that it was a malware. For details, see IT Home previously reported.

“Does anyone imagine that Nvidia LHR graphics cards will unlock computing power for you? It turns out that the so-called third-party tool is just a virus”
