At WWDC 2022, Apple announced watchOS 9 with new features for the Apple Watch. The final version of watchOS 9 will be released this fall. In this article, we’ll show you what’s new in watchOS 9.
New watchOS 9 watch faces
With watchOS 9, Apple has updated existing watch faces. In addition, there will be four new dials:
- Astronomy
- Lunar
- play time
- Metropolitan
Podcasts
The Apple Podcasts app will get new features, including the ability to search for shows on Apple Watch, access to the Listen Now feature, and the inclusion of an app for kids with Family Setup.
Workout
The Apple Workouts app is a big update to exercise tracking with running heart rate zones and many other new features. Apple has also added a Fitness app for all iPhone users – no longer required an Apple Watch. In watchOS 9, metrics for running forms are also available.
Dream
watchOS 9 improves sleep tracking with sleep stages (REM, Core, Deep) and a new study on atrial fibrillation history prior to FDA approval.
Medications
Medications is a new medication tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch. This feature allows you to scan medication labels from your iPhone and receive medication reminders and more.
What else
Here are more features coming to watchOS 9:
- Updated Calendar app
- Access to the key for children through Family Setup
- Dogs and cats in a portrait dial
- Background color editor for watch faces
- Multisport training
- Cross-device connection between Apple Watch and Apple TV
watchOS 9 will be available this fall on Apple Watch Series 4 and later. The update ended support for the Apple Watch Series 3.
