IT House news on May 7th, recently, the status of multiple “QQ Metaverse” trademarks applied for by Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. have been changed to “Notice of Rejection”. In addition, the company’s applications for “Magic Nuclear Metaverse”, “QQ Music Metaverse”, “Light Night Yuan Universe” and other metaverse trademarks were also rejected. The above trademarks were all applied for in September 2021.
According to previous reports, a person from the State Intellectual Property Office said,The Metaverse is a new technology and cannot be used as a trademark by individuals, otherwise it is easy to be misunderstood.
In February this year, the State Intellectual Property Office replied that (at that time) there were more than 16,000 trademark applications related to “Metaverse” and “METAVERSE” in the trademark database. According to the “Trademark Law” and its relevant regulations, the State Intellectual Property Office will review the relevant trademark registration applications of “Metaverse” and “METAVERSE” in accordance with the law.
