iOS 15.5 will restore the popular Apple Music API used by third-party music players that allowed users to change the playback speed of songs in the app, a software engineer at the company said.

In iOS 15.4, Apple removed an API used by third-party players that allowed users to change the playback speed of songs. The Apple Music app itself does not allow users to change the playback speed, but popular App Store apps such as Perfect Tempo, could offer users such an opportunity. Why the company did this is unknown, but in the upcoming release of iOS 15.5, which is currently in testing, Apple will bring this feature back.

Joe Koon, Apple Software Engineer on the Apple Music team, posted a message to the frustrated developers:

Hello,
We have reviewed our previous decision to disable Apple Music Subscription Playback Speed in third-party apps, and have concluded that we can safely re-enable this feature as we did prior to iOS 15.4.
So this issue is fixed in iOS 15.5 beta 4.
Hope this will be helpful.
Best wishes.

This week, Apple released the fourth developer beta of iOS and iPadOS 15.5. iOS 15.5 will only include minor changes and additions, as well as performance and security fixes.
