At the presentation of WWDC 2022, Apple introduced a new system-on-a-chip M2.
The system-on-a-chip is built on a 5-nm process technology, has 20 billion transistors, and its bandwidth is 100 GB. A total of eight CPU cores (four high performance and four high power efficiency) and 10 GPU cores. The maximum amount of combined memory is 24 GB (LPDDR5).
The new media codec supports 8K video as well as multiple 8K and 4K streams.
The M2 chip is 18% more powerful than the M1 in terms of CPU and 35% in terms of GPU. All characteristics of the new chip:
