Harley-Davidson has big ambitions for its LiveWire division, which specializes in electric motorcycles. After the One released last year, the manufacturer is raising the sauce around a new model called Del Mar.
It’s the excitement on the side of Harley-Davidson: the LiveWire brand, created to meet the demand for electric motorcycles, is preparing to unveil a new model. It will be the Del Mar, a motorcycle that could be lighter and also cheaper than the first LiveWire One released last year.
Waiting for May 10
The manufacturer makes no secret of the urban character of the Del Mar, while the One is more cut out for wide horizons and the road. The two-wheeler could be based on a 2019 Harley-Davidson concept (see the image above), which is therefore a bit dated: it is possible that the Del Mar is very different, but it gives a small idea of what what we can expect.
Harley-Davidson has developed a production platform called Arrow to assemble electric motorcycles. The LiveWire One is obviously built on this platform, and everything indicates that this will also be the case for the Del Mar, at least for the battery pack, the electronics and the motor. The production of the new motorcycle would be based on the S2 version of this platform. With Arrow, the manufacturer will also be able to assemble light motorcycles (S3) and “heavyweight” models (S4).
The group aims to sell 100,000 electric motorcycles by 2026. To achieve this, it will have to offer models for all segments, hence the launch of the Del Mar. A strategic motorcycle since it will be aimed at pilots less fortunate than those who can extract the approximately $22,000 from the LiveWire One! We will know a little more on May 10, the day of the unveiling of this new motorcycle.
